What is a Bioloid?

The Bioloid is a robotic kit made up of cleverly designed interchangeable block-shaped parts.  With these parts, you can build robots in various shapes that accomplish various tasks. The name “Bioloid” comes from the words“Bio” + “all” + “oid” meaning that any living thing can be built in the form of a robot.

AX-12+AX-12+ Dynamixel series robot actuator

The Bioloid robotic kit includes 18 TTL network ready AX-12+ actuators (continuous rotation motors) with feedback support. These little power houses output 167oz-in to 222 oz-in (12kg-cm to 16kg-cm) of holding torque at 7.2V and 9.6V respectively. Standard hobby servos with approximately the same torque ratings retail for about $45.00 each (if you're lucky). That's $810.00 for 18 standard analog servos without feedback capabilities! AX-S1AX-S1 Dynamixel Sensor Module

A Dynamixel “AX-S1” is a smart network ready sensor module that contains an infrared receiver, infrared distance sensor, light sensor and buzzer. Like the AX-12+, the AX-S1 can recognize subtle changes in internal temperature and service voltage. One of these bad boys is included in every kit!

Behavior Control Program

Robots require software and Bioloid robotic kits come with 3 powerful software tools; a behavior control programmer, a motion editor and a terminal application.
